Books worth having Part 37

Books worth having Part 37

No, it isn't really Part 37, but I have a lot of knitting books and Part 1 didn't sound right.

Have had the most amazing service from Amazon recently. Ordered 3 knitting books for some research I'm doing on stitch patterns, and the first one came about 12 hours later. On a Saturday. Free shipping. I guess they ship extra quick around Christmas.

Anyways, on to Knitting Books For the Knitting Nerd Part 172:

This one is Patterns for Guernseys, Jerseys, and Arans: Fishermen's Sweaters from the British Isles by Gladys Thompson. With the internet, we can easily accesss archives of olde timey knitting. Google "guernsey knitting" and you'll get some fantastic black and white photos of fishermen in their beautifully handcrafted sweaters.

Thompson's book is a great resource for knitters interested in knitting tradition and knitted textures. Lots of geographical and historical tidbits, accompanied by knitting charts and written instructions for Guernsey, Aran and Jersey fishermen sweaters. And the list price is around $15, less than $10 on Amazon. Great deal.
