Home again. 82 skeins heavier.
By Megan Goodacre

Phew. It's always harder travelling East than it is West. You're all like, okay, if it's 1pm in Calgary then it's 3pm in Ottawa, but I got up at 4am in Courtenay, and I'm currently over Saskatoon, so add 2 for time change, subtract 1.75 for layover, don't forget to convert for a 24 hour clock when we enter Ontario air space, minus the coffee I didn't have, then it's, 9:35 August 12, 2015? Is that right?
Love the warm hospitality of friends and family, but also love the comfortable familiarity of own bed, pillow, coffee machine, remote control, toilet, shower, etc. Even the neighbourhood sounds of construction cranes and dynamite are strangely comforting after the country sounds of raccoons and deer in heat.
Today is all about catch up for Tricksy Knitter. Shipping? Done. Email? Good lord, done. So. Much. Junk. I'm going to set up new mail rules to filter messages containing the following words or phrases: singles, brides, hot-tub, arrest report, court appearance, red hot, Russian, Japanese, timeshare, hair loss, African safari, private jet rental, belly fat, bobble head coupon, satisfy your woman, cheap meds, exotic, bad nail beds, or learn her secret now.
The blog will be back properly on Monday with an update on the Malala Fund drive that we did on July 14th and 15th. I'm very excited to check the final tally and officially make the donation!
In the meantime, here are a couple of snapshots of some new Sweatermaker Yarns skeins. I had a good visit with Sweatermaker's colour mastermind, Judy Maclean, who is weaving and dyeing up a storm for the Filberg Festival this weekend. If you're in town and looking for a gorgeous gift, check out her handwoven shawls at the Filberg. Cashmere, silk, and more. And considering the amount of work that goes into each one, incredibly priced. She also has some hand-felted bracelets that would make great stocking stuffers. Get your holiday shopping done in advance! How To Win At Christmas by Tricksy Knitter.
Judy had all of the available skeins on tables in her studio for me to choose from. She has several yarns, but I use three of them for building the Tricksy Knitter knitting kits: Marjorie (50 silk 50 merino), Maggie (70 silk 30 cashmere), and Sara (60 superwash merino 15 rayon from bamboo 15 nylon 10 silk). Well, there wasn't a lot of choosing going on. That is, I didn't leave much on the table. I think I left her with 6 skeins. The other 82 came with me. Have you ever tried to pack 82 100-gram skeins in your luggage? And yes, all the luggage made it to Ottawa, and all 82 skeins are sitting in my studio, safe and sound.
More on these later. The great news is, there will soon be 82 new kits available!
