New pattern in Interweave Knits Holiday Gifts 2012

Interweave Knits has been publishing a special edition called Holiday Gifts since 2006. These special editions focus on lovely little projects like scarves, mitts, decorations, vests, hats, blankets.

It's all very wintery and gifty, just in time for the big gift-knitting push. And of course, they're not just handy for the Christmas season; you'll go back to them again when you're looking for that nice bite-sized project.

I'm so pleased to have a design in there, called the Henning Cowl. Cowls are a great gift or quick knit choice. A double-length cowl, like Henning, is just as luxurious as a scarf, but there's actually a lot less real estate to cover, so you can finish quicker and use less yarn.

Henning uses three colours, so it's a great stashbuster. I often have 1½ to 2 balls of yarn left after a big project. And it's not quite enough on it's own for a project (unless you're looking for another hat). But put three colors together, and voila!

Henning looks great on both sides of the fabric, and has a pleasing woven texture. The texture is super-easy to make with some simple slip stitches. I'll post a little more on the slip-stitch technique later!

For instant digital gratification, you can download Holiday Gifts 2012 here. Or you can order it in print here. Or, check your newsstand, it should be there soon!
