Sneak Peek: Ferguson Beanie

Sneak Peek: Ferguson Beanie

The infrequency of new blog posts makes it look like I'm not knitting much; au contraire my friend, au contraire. Knitting my arse off, as well as working on some secret knitting-related projects (not to mention some bread-and-butter graphic design work). More on the knitting-related stuff soon. Wink wink say no more.

But in the midst of all these work related things, I'm thinking about Christmas, and what to give everyone. And realized that by this time in December, a lot of knitters are in the same boat. What can I knit as a gift, that I can finish in one evening, that takes one skein?

Fingerless mitts are a good choice, but you kind of need two of them, and casting on twice feels like work, and then you have to knit thumbs and all that, and weave in at least 4 ends, omg. Hats, on the other hand, are lower effort; not too much knitting, not too hard to fit, and they can be finished in one (albeit intense) bout of knitting.

And thus, the Ferguson Beanie. It's a simple unisex beanie in worsted weight to match the Ferguson Cowl. The cables are not cables at all; they're mock cables, which means no cable needle. And you could easily make it more toque-like by making a deeper brim to fold up.

These ones are done in Brooklyn Tweed Shelter Pumpernickel (the brown, pumpernickel coloured one), and Sweatermaker Yarns hand-dyed Lily (the grey). The crown is shaped in five sections, making a lovely and slightly festive star motif at the top.

Pattern coming soon!
